A satirical novel about a man who unexpectedly breaks out of the rut of his usual lifestyle and strives to follow his dream. The setting is a Belarusian town. The heroes are local people. This is a book of wonders and adventures about the outstanding traveler Benjamin and his loyal squire Sanderl, who set out from their hometown to the fantastic lands of the East. Along the way, they encounter amazing adventures and fateful meetings.
Mendele Moycher-Sforim. The name of this writer is known far beyond his native Belarus. He is a smiling pioneer of serious Jewish literature. The one who brought back the biblical language of Hebrew, and also included the language of the towns - Yiddish, in the ranks of active and fruitful players of world literature.
The author wrote this novel in Yiddish in the 19th century, re-translated it into Hebrew in the 20th century, and now, in the 21st century, after translations into many languages of the world, a Belarusian version is being published, prepared by the Center for Belarusian-Jewish Cultural Heritage in cooperation with the Logvinov Publishing House. The illustrations were made by artist Mitya Posyrak.
