The autobiographical book by Boris Mantsevich tells about the fate of a Belarusian boy during the dark years of World War II. As a result of dramatic events, his family ended up in a partisan camp. During the Red Army offensive in 1944, the hero of the book, along with other children, is flown across the front line by plane and soon ends up in an orphanage in Fergana, Uzbekistan. The book was born on the basis of diary entries that the author began to make in 1947. The memories are rich in details that could only be noticed in childhood.
