The writer's very first novel — "Former son" — tells the story of a young man who suffered in a terrible stampede on the Nemiza River and spent 10 years in a coma. He was cared for by his grandmother, who, in turn, tried to see the world through her grandson's eyes so that she could tell him everything when he recovered. She tells the story, and the reader remembers what Belarusians experienced during this time : It's as if an entire country was lying in a coma, because there was no impulse that would make this living body get up and do something for itself. And the consequences of this lying in wait catch up with you, even when you come to life and hope appears.
