"Mesopotamia" is a book by Ukrainian writer Serhiy Zhadan, consisting of nine prose and thirty poetic stories of love and death. The heroes of these stories are people of different destinies, biographies and characters, but they are all somehow connected. Together with them, the reader will find himself in a city of interfluves, where he will face tortuous journeys from one bank to the other - or into the depths of the water.
Serhii Zhadan (born in 1974) is a Ukrainian writer and public figure. The frontman of the famous rock band "Zhadan and Dogs" is the author of the novels "Despatch Mode", "Anarchy in the UKR", "Voroshilovgrad", "Internat", poetry collections "Citatnik", "Ethiopia", "Life of Mary", "Templars", "Antenna", "List of ships", "Aviation Psalm", "Skripnikivka" and others.
Critics call Serhiy Zhadan one of the best writers of the post-Soviet space, noting his ability to be close to both the ordinary and the highly intellectual reader. Serhiy Zhadan's literary works have been awarded numerous national and international awards and translated into more than twenty languages, making the author one of the most famous modern Ukrainian writers in the world.
For his book "Mesopotamia" (2014), Serhiy Zhadan received the prestigious literary awards "Angelus" and "Ukrainian Book of the Year" in 2015.
