This novel was written over 12 years – in Minsk, Berlin, Vienna, Zurich and Vilnius. I carried it with me like my dreams. Moscow in the 2000s. A city where staggering money swirls and steely morals reign. Where a person exists in the coordinates of submission and temptation, where will is most often the will to power. The main character, an emigrant teacher from Belarus, falls into a whirlpool of trials that force him to understand anew why the rejection of individual freedom is so sweet. This text is worth reading to feel and understand the energies that stood behind many events in the post-Soviet space over the past 30 years.
