About the author and the book

Swedish children's writer and illustrator Gunilla Bergström was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1942.

The book "The Adventures of Bill and Bolly: Poems and Jokes" was first published in 1978.

Bill has just become a big brother, and he feels the happiest person in the world. But as time goes by, everyone realizes that something is wrong with his little sister, Bola: Bola doesn't talk at all.

The book shows both the happiness that a younger sister brings, and the grief and pain when everyone finds out that she is special.

In 1979, a sequel to the book about Bill and Bola was published - "About Bola and Her Brother: Silly and Silly". And in 2007, "The Superbook about Bill and Bola: Bill is Smart and Bola is Funny" appeared, which consisted of the two previous books about Bill and his sister.

Gunilla Bergström was inspired to write these books by the situation in her own family: she has two children of her own, and her youngest daughter has autism.
