Magic Time: Selected Poetry

For the first time, the poetry of Gedre Kazlauskaitė, one of the most prominent and influential figures in Lithuanian poetry today, is being presented to readers in a separate book in the Belarusian language. This book is composed of her selected poems from three original collections: Meninos (2014), Singerstraum (2016) and Gintaro kambarys (2018), as well as some previously unpublished works. In her poetry, Kazlauskaitė touches on delicate and often forgotten, uncomfortable topics for Lithuanian society: the representation of historical collective and individual memory, the history of Lithuanian Jews, women's history and tradition (in particular, through sewing), motherhood, lesbianism, alcoholism, criticism of radicalism, ecology. Her poetry is narrative, plot-based, written in free verse, but, nevertheless, the author adheres to a subtle internal rhythm. The poet stands out for her openness and courage: in her poetic texts, she actualizes the internal dramas and comedies of women in a patriarchal society.
