Black Forest

In the world of this book, it is necessary to pay with one's own flesh for crossing the border, and sooner or later a summons to the deadly swamp arrives in the mailbox. But the "black forest" is not a fantasy or a dystopia, but a realistic reflection of the world in which Belarusians and Belarusians have found themselves after 2020. The horror of a person in uniform, experiencing trauma, loss of homeland, resilience and resistance are placed in the classic Belarusian topos of a swamp, a border, a village, a field, which acquire the ability to act in spite of those who asserted their power over them.

Toni Lashden is a writer, human rights activist, co-organizer of the Belarusian feminist archive "Stretching" and the feminist writing laboratory of the same name. Tony is between borders and countries. Born in Belarus, Tony lived in Sweden, Ukraine, Georgia and Poland. Tony loves birds and birdwatching in his spare time. His favorite bird is a blackbird.
