Anarchy in the UKR

Anarchy in the UKR is a book about times that are difficult to imagine for those who did not live in them. About a time without the Internet and mobile phones, about the turning point when the red flags and slogans of the CPSU that dominated everywhere suddenly began to lose their relevance, giving way to informal associations and street parties, when sleaze and esotericism came out into the open, and with them restless entrepreneurs who tried to make money on all this.

Zhadanov's notes are sharp, uncombed, they often destroy the retouched pictures of the past, which after some time can form even in direct witnesses of events. This is their value.

Sergey Zhadan – poet, novelist, translator, essayist, organizer of literary festivals, rock concerts, theatrical performances, and civil disobedience actions. Author of several books of poetry and prose.

Oleg Zhlutka — translator, participant in the human rights movement, performer and musician. Born in Ukraine in 1980. Member of Ilya Sin's "Theatre of Mental Imbalance", the Society of Ukrainian Literature under the Union of Belarusian Writers, the "Svamova" project, the "Nyakhay" art community. Currently lives in Warsaw.

“Anarchy” came into Aleh Zhlutko's hands in the fall of 2007 and made such a strong impression that he immediately decided to take on the translation. It was published in Minsk in 2012.
In 2014, Zhadan, who had become stale by that time, republished “Anarchy”, having edited his original text: he arranged the punctuation, in places removed unnecessary attacks and comments, as a result of which the work became even more expressive and - at the same time - easier to perceive. In 2022, Oleg Zhlutka got excited about the idea of ​​making the translation a capital “remastering” - bringing it closer to the form in which the Ukrainian work exists today. This translation is published by the Skaryna publishing house.
