The German lands during the Thirty Years' War — this is the world of Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen (1622 – 1676), whose novel "Simplicius Simplicissimus" was first published in 1668 and is the most prominent work of European literary Baroque.
The translation of the novel's first version into Belarusian, carried out in the mid-1990s by Vasil Siomukha, is rightly considered one of the best achievements of the national school of literary translation.
