Belarusian vytinanka: traditions and modernity

The book “Belarusian Vytinanka: Traditions and Modernity” is a comprehensive study of one of the most distinctive types of folk art in Belarus. The publication reveals the history, techniques, national and European specifics of Vytinanka, and also analyzes its renaissance in the 21st century. The art of paper cutting has ceased to be forgotten and has once again played at exhibitions, in schools and craft studios across the country.

The publication is dedicated to the original, interesting, once quite widespread, then practically forgotten, and today revived at a new level type of folk art - artistic paper cutting. Having revived in our time practically from non-existence, vytinanka (cut-out, vystriganka) in a short period of time has declared itself as a distinctive artistic phenomenon; it is a component or subject of various exhibitions, festivals, holidays, competitions, it is practiced in kindergartens, schools, studios, homes and craft centers, even in higher educational institutions. In 2021, Belarusian vytinanka was included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values ​​of the Republic of Belarus.
The proposed publication examines and highlights the history, current state, artistic features, European context, and national distinctiveness of Belarusian vytinanka.
