***

The city of Brest has endured many assaults, fires, and destructions, and soldiers of many armies have found their eternal rest here. In 1919-1920, the Polish-Bolshevik War took place here. From 1920 to 1939, the Brest Fortress played an important role in the defense system. But already in 1939, it fell into the hands of German invaders, who, in accordance with the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact, handed it over to the Russians. The album contains 180 unique photos from the author's private collection and 20 modern photos of places and objects that complement the history. This is a journey to the city of Brest during the interwar period and a look through the eyes of witnesses at the defense of the Brest Fortress in 1939. The lens of photographers reveals famous people of that time, as well as places and topics of interest to historians. A look at an important place in Polish memory and unedited history. Most of the photos have been published for the first time.
