"Former Son" is Sasha Filipenka's first novel, which made him famous in the literary world. It is the story of a young man who, after the tragedy at Nyamiha, lay in a coma for 10 years under the care of his grandmother. She told him about everything that was happening in the country and the world while he remained silent, as if all of Belarus had fallen into a coma with him. The novel raises questions of memory, responsibility, and new beginnings, showing how difficult it is to revive the body and spirit after a long silence. The book has already been translated into many languages worldwide and is now available to readers in Belarusian.

The writer's very first novel, "Former Son," tells the story of a young man who was injured in a terrible crush at Nyamiha and lay in a coma for 10 years. He was cared for by his grandmother, who, in turn, tried to see the world through her grandson's eyes so that she could tell him everything when he recovered. She tells him, and the reader recalls what Belarusians have experienced during this time: it's as if an entire country lay in a coma, because there was no impulse that would make this living body stand up and do something for itself. And the consequences of this lying catch up, even when you come back to life and hope appears.

Sasha Filipenka (born in 1984) is a Belarusian with colossal journalistic experience. He publishes in world-class press and actively defends common sense and humanity.

Sasha Filipenka's novels have been translated into French, German, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Italian, English, Croatian, Dutch, Spanish, Japanese, Swedish, Slovak, Thai, and Turkish (and Korean is planned in the near future). They were originally written in Russian, but this year they have been re-created in Belarusian.
