Yanka Maur creatively assimilated the traditions of Jules Verne and James Fenimore Cooper, Mayne Reid and Louis Boussenard, Alexandre Dumas and H. G. Wells. He is deservedly considered the founder of the adventure genre in our beautiful literature, a creator and classic of Belarusian children’s literature.
Already the first novella by the then 40-year-old history and geography teacher, "Man Walks," which fruitfully combined educational value and adventure, became a bestseller. In it, the author found a successful artistic device — a prehistoric man, like a child, discovers everything for the first time: lights a fire, hunts a predatory beast; for the first time, a smile appears on his lips, and a tear in his eyes...
The short stories by Yanka Maur "Tubi’s Tears," "Lazzaroni," "Happiness," "Travel Around the House," "Maksimka," "The Birch Horse"... have also become textbook classics.
