Chernobyl Prayer

"Chernobyl Prayer" is the fourth book in Svetlana Alexievich's "Voices from Utopia" cycle, in which the author conveys the tragedy of Chernobyl through live testimonies of people.
It is a polyphonic confession-novel, where the "little person" themselves narrates their pain, fear, courage, and hope.
Before the reader is the latest author's edition of the chronicle: without censored edits, with new episodes and pages from the writer's personal diary.
The book portrays Chernobyl not only as a man-made catastrophe but also as a spiritual test for the entire country.

The documentary and artistic chronicle "Voices from Utopia" consists of five books in which the "little person" themselves narrates their fate. This is a distinctive genre – polyphonic confession-novels where a grand history is pieced together from small events. Before the reader is the latest author's edition of the cycle in the newest Belarusian translation. The writer, following her creative method, refined the chronicle: removed censored edits, added new episodes, as well as pages from her own diary. "Chernobyl Prayer" is the fourth book of the chronicle, dedicated to the main man-made catastrophe of the 20th century. The book very often speaks through the voices of our compatriots – liquidators and their relatives, journalists and scientists, teachers and residents of Polesian villages.
