The central figure of the third issue is Tadeusz Kościuszko. In 2019, the 225th anniversary of the uprising under his leadership was celebrated. Kościuszko is revered by Poles and Americans. He is a hero, our great compatriot. But his heroism and that of his comrades did not save the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth from division. Could that decline have been prevented? Could the state have broken free from the dependence on powerful neighbors that it had fallen into at the end of the 18th century?
Both the biography – a difficult one – of Kościuszko and the analysis of the actions of the last leader of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Stanisław August Poniatowski, give us the answer to these questions.
In issue #3 you will also find articles about dear Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev and his immortal works, a biography of Konstantin Simonov, who did not cry for his wife, but cried for Stalin. Lovers of good cuisine will find a detailed article about traditional holiday beans and potato babka.
Traditionally, the magazine publishes many first-hand stories, memories of people from different parts of the country. This time, among the interesting articles, it is worth noting "Ostarbaitar, or a Journey There and Back" about how a 17-year-old boy from Narach got to Norway and worked with people from different parts of Europe. And also about unusual stones in the village of Potapavichy near the old road connecting Lyakhavichy and Kleck.
