"Black Flags and Windmills" is Scott Crowe's autobiographical chronicle of how, in the midst of the destruction after Hurricane Katrina, a group of activists and local residents organized a horizontal relief community. The book tells not only about the failure of the authorities, but also about the power of solidarity, self-organization and humanity, manifested in the darkest days. History of real civil resistance, based on real events.

Hurricane Katrina was the most destructive in the history of the United States, but few of us imagine what the residents of the Gulf of Mexico actually had to endure.
The state machine showed its unsustainability by leaving people to die in flooded houses, to die of hunger and disease; uncontrolled police violence and armed terror by racists began.
Scott Crow went to the exclusion zone at his own risk and fear to save his friend, and when he found people in distress, he stayed.
Using their knowledge, practical experience and connections with caring people across the country, Scott and his friends were able to create a collective "Common Platform". Together with local residents, they treated and fed the victims, shoveled debris and helped people save their homes.
