Oak galls

The heroes of these stories are not connected, but their histories are united by a common past. Some heroes and heroines you recognize immediately; in other stories and dialogues, you see yourself, friends, or neighbors. "Oak Apples" is a sincere, emotional, and bold project of personal chronicle and meditation on the multifaceted nature of family, on language, childhood and maturity, femininity and motherhood, on a new and distant country that has become home.

The book begins in Russian and ends in Belarusian and the Polesian dialect native to the author.

Volha Katsiuk lives in New Zealand (Aotearoa). Her stories, poems, essays, and translations have been published in journals, anthologies, and online publications worldwide. In her work, she often touches upon themes relevant to feminist literature, issues of decolonization, and languages.
