Aeneid. Volume 1

Virgil (70–19 BC) – a poet of ancient Rome, author of the famous "Aeneid", which recounts the legendary origin of the Roman people in poetic form. Virgil's epic poem is closely linked to Homer's epic. In the first six books of the epic included in this edition, which tell of Aeneas' journey from Troy to Italy, one can see a partial imitation of the plot of the "Odyssey".

In the main work of his life, the poet brings the past closer to his present, myths – to real history; he creates memorable images of both the main character and other mortal and immortal characters.

The first complete translation of the work into the Belarusian language in history was made by Liavon Barshcheuski.
