"I'll look out the window..." is the second novel in the "Minsk Trilogy" by Siarhiej Piasecki, the renowned Polish-Belarusian prose writer. With his characteristic vividness, the author recounts the closed and mysterious criminal underworld of Minsk at the beginning of the 20th century.
The novel covers the period from early spring 1918 to August 1919, a time of the collapse of empires and the belligerent rise of new states. At that time, Minsk, as a large frontline city with ample opportunities for professional criminals, concentrated scoundrels from various lands.
After "Yablichka," we await the continuation of the story of the "signature" thief Alik Baran, his treacherous lover Paŭlinka, and his talented apprentice Jaś Natsevič, as well as the dangerous adventures of new characters. Before the reader's eyes passes a motley procession of burglars, swindlers, adventurers — women and men, "aces" and "pawns" — and a whole range of their methods of work unfolds. Clouds gather over Minsk's criminal clan — the game is for life and freedom.
