Eliza Orzeszkowa's "The Boor" is a profound novella about life in a 19th-century Belarusian village. At its heart is Pavel Kabyski, a simple peasant fisherman, whose fate combines strength of character, moral resilience, and the ability to forgive. His confrontation with the haughty Frana is based on the biblical commandment to forgive, which makes the work universal and timely. The novella has been staged numerous times, starting with Ignat Buinitsky's troupe, and was even adapted for the screen. This book is for those who want to understand the spirit of the Belarusian village and the classics of our literature.
