"On the Way to Babadag" is more than just travel notes. It is a profound collection of observations and reflections on the people, customs, and landscapes of Central and Eastern Europe: from Slovakia to Transnistria. The author not only describes cities and sceneries but also contemplates the mentality, life values, and spiritual quests of the region's inhabitants. For this book, he was awarded the prestigious Vilenica Prize in 2008. It is a journey that reveals Europe from a different side — sincere and authentic.
***
The book is a collection of the author's memories and reflections on his travels, during which he repeatedly visited countries in Central and Eastern Europe — Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Albania, Ukraine, Romania, Moldova, and Transnistria. The author recalls people, customs, and describes places and landscapes. Of particular interest are the writer's reflections on the mentality and customs of the inhabitants of this part of Europe, which many consider backward and primitive. This is a travel book, but not only in a geographical sense. It also involves a journey in a spiritual sense. It is a reflection on life and on the transcendent.
In 2008, the author received the Vilenica Prize for this book.
