The novel "Notes in the Flow of Time" has an autobiographical basis. The story centers on a night school teacher and his daily pedagogical work, full of curious situations and paradoxes. The conflict between good and evil is transformed into a conflict between the individual and the system (school and social) in which the individual is forced to exist. Stanislav Rakus uses compositional and plot techniques that are new to Slovak literature, which makes his work innovative.
