A young teacher named Anton arrives in the village of Krupa, where the dead are disappearing. On maps, the village is just a dot among swamps and forests, but the locals believe in ancient superstitions and live according to the traditions of their ancestors.

The "thread" ritual, after which the dead disappear, worries Anton, and he begins to look for a logical explanation for it. The further the teacher progresses in the investigation, the more he risks his own life and encounters hostility from the local residents.
