The figure of Vaclau Lastouski – a self-taught polymath, a true pioneer who laid new forms and approaches in many areas of Belarusian studies – stands out clearly against the backdrop of cultural construction in the 1920s. Reflecting the multiplicity of Lastouski's spheres of activity, the collection presents an interdisciplinary approach to his work. Perhaps for the first time, Lastouski appears before us as a sociolinguist, art critic, and philosopher, and the reception of his work is explored. Along with the central figure of Lastouski, other significant figures who laid the foundations of Belarusian linguistics (Ya. Karski), literary studies (M. Haretski), and ethnography (A. Shliubski) are considered.
