“If you have known all the cruelty and horror of life and managed not to scream, clutching your head, but to laugh mockingly — you are Alena Hermanovich. That is who she is.
Reading the book, you feel as if you are trudging along a winding path toward the horizon with ordinary people, interesting to no one but the author, and you are all just accidental fellow travelers in life. Travelers into the valley. But along the way, you can tell each other things both terrible and funny.”
The book is surprisingly human, like the smile of a weary person — “in this world, everyone always has more important things to do than you.”
I read it without stopping.”
