Mysteries of Old Minsk

"Secrets of Old Minsk" is a unique publication dedicated to the history of the capital of Belarus in the 10th–12th centuries. The book shows the emergence of the city on the Menka River, the results of archaeological research in recent decades, and the discovery of the grandiose oak walls of 997, which actually gave a new date for the founding of Minsk. The publication is richly illustrated with more than 200 drawings and photographs, many of which are being published for the first time.

The publication provides an accessible and fascinating account of the emergence of Minsk on the Menka River and the period of its existence here from the 10th to the mid-12th centuries. The results of excavations from 1954 to 2024 are analyzed. The most important finds are clearly shown. The grandiose excavations of 2023-2024 are described in detail, when the majestic oak walls of 997 were discovered and a new date for the city's foundation was actually obtained. More than 200 illustrations are used, many of which are published for the first time.
