"Ula 1564" is a historical essay about one of the key victories of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania during the Livonian War. The book reconstructs the events when the Lithuanian army, led by Mikołaj Radziwiłł the Red, managed to defeat significant Muscovite forces.
***
During the Livonian War, in January 1564, Muscovy launched a new military campaign. Two enemy armies were to unite near Orsha and, using scorched-earth tactics, advance on Minsk, Novogrudok, and Vilnius.
The invaders received a fitting response to this challenge on the Ula River, where they were defeated by the Lithuanian army under Grand Hetman Mikołaj Radziwiłł the Red and Polish Hetman Hrehory Chodkiewicz. The Ula triumph of our arms was followed a few days later by the Battle of Orsha in 1564, which finally buried Moscow's plans and restored military balance in the confrontation between the sides. These events are reconstructed by the renowned historian Andrei Yanushkevich.
